T. Edward & Alvalene P. Karlsson Scholarship Awards
The Sweden Day Committee is committed to helping young students further their education goals through annual scholarship awards, announced during the Sweden Day festivities. (Sweden Day Scholarship Application Link -> Scholarship Application 2022
Scholarship applications are available to students up to age 25, (As of Sweden Day), entering or enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or technical program leading to a certificate or degree.
Named for Alvalene P. and T. Edward “TEK” Karlsson, two dedicated editors and photo journalists who tirelessly chronicled every noteworthy event and celebration for Nordstjernan, the Swedish-American newspaper publishing for more then 140 years. They joined Nordstjernan in 1973 and actively contributed for many years. Their dedication, hard work and professional standards are guiding examples for scholarship applicants every year. Although the Sweden Day celebration was canceled this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Committee is happy to annouce Elsa Lorieul as the winner of the 2020 T. Edward and Alvalene P. Karlsoon Scholarship Award. Elsa is actively involved in many organizations (such as Vasa organizations Barnklubben Elsa Rix No. 1 and Olympic Lodge #235;, Girl Scouts), and volunteers in the community. She will attend the University of Louisville to study Equine Business and Management. She is an accomplished equestrian, photographer, and has extensive interests in many fields. She is an exceptional young adult, well deserving of this award. Congratulations, Grattis, Elsa!
